(1494-1566) Suleiman the Magnificent was the sultan of Turkey from 1520 to 1566. Under his rule, the Ottoman Empire reached its peak. He was a patron of the arts and sciences and was noted for his legal reforms. He expanded his empire as far west as Hungary and as far east as Iran to rule the Mediterranean Sea.
